The SAP harnesses the power of each of the four senses that interact with cannabis — Appearance, Aroma, Flavor, and Experience — to critically assess the true quality of cannabis flower and concentrates based on a standardized set of criteria.

While lab tests may be useful for providing a snapshot of the chemical profile of cannabis, in order to reliably identify the genuine desirability of any gustatory-based product, we must utilize our own senses.

This is known to be true in the world of fine wine, cigars, chocolate, coffee, cheese, etc. Every epicurean based industry relies upon trained specialists to assess, judge, and characterize the essence of these delicacies.

Coupled with our Certified Ganjier level training, the SAP equips and empowers the Ganjier to deliver information and knowledge that is essential to consumers at every level, making them an invaluable asset to any Enterprise.

Appearance

The Appearance assessment begins with a thorough visual inspection of the sample using a high quality 10x jeweler’s loupe (the recognized standard of certified gemologists). After confirming that the sample is free of contaminants, the assessor identifies and grades the visual attributes of the sample including “trichome coverage”, quality of the “trim”, and “flower maturity”. Upon completing the Appearance section of The SAP, the tool calculates a final Appearance grade on a scale of 1-10.

Aroma

Next, the assessor is encouraged to engage in an olfactory odyssey of exploration while quantifying the aromatic attributes of the sample. “Intensity”, “Complexity”, and “Uniqueness” are just a few of the criteria that are identified and graded in the Aroma section of the assessment. Upon completing the Aroma category of the SAP, the application calculates a final Aroma grade on a scale of 1-10.

Flavor

The Flavor assessment guides the assessor towards distilling the true essence of the gustatory experience. Beginning with the “Dry Hit”, the Flavor category has more individually-rated criteria than any of the other three categories, and also includes “Longevity” and “Smoothness”. Upon completing the Flavor section of the SAP, the application tool calculates a final Flavor grade on a scale of 1-10.

Experience

Finally, the SAP unravels the complexities of quantifying both the physical and mental effects of cannabis in order to provide the highest level of service to consumers. Given the unique nature of each individual’s experience, physical and mental effects are identified only and not rated. However, “Enjoyment of Experience” has been included to provide the assessor the opportunity to impart a value of 1-10 to the overall experience the sample delivered.

Final Report

Once the assessment has been concluded, the SAP app delivers a final score, founded on the familiar and established 100 point scale successfully employed throughout the wine industry since the 1970’s.

The final report not only provides the full details of each of the attributes that led to the final score, but also offers the option to print a condensed “Report Card”.
The 3”x5” shelf-ready Report Card contains the final overall score as well as the final score from each of the four categories, in addition to a QR code that links to the full report.

Coupled with our Certified Ganjier training, the SAP app equips and empowers the Ganjier to deliver detailed information that is essential to consumers at every level, from the cannabis novice to the contemporary connoisseur, as well as the industry professional.
